Lives and works in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. Said Atabekov began his artistic career in 1993 as a member of Kyzyl Traktor, the first avant-garde art group in Southern Kazakhstan, founded in Shymkent after the Perestroika. A witness to successive waves of social and political change, the artist explores in his work the points of intersection and local impact of often diametrically opposed cultures and ideologies, skillfully exposing the paradoxes embedded within them.
