Jadé Fadojutimi

Years of life:

b. 1993, London

Biography:

Lives and works in London. Fadojutimi describes herself as a “composer of colour, space, and environments.” Her paintings are often monumental in scale - dynamic, energetic, and positioned on the boundary between abstraction and figuration. The central themes of her work include the exploration of identity, self-discovery, memory, and lived experience through colour, form, and movement. She refers to her canvases as “emotional landscapes.” She draws inspiration from various sources: Japanese culture and subcultures (anime, fashion), sound environments, everyday objects, clothing, and the dress as a metaphor (for example, the shapes of stockings, ribbons) -all of which can appear as subconscious imagery. Her method is often improvisational; movement and the physicality of the body (painting as a form of dancing or jumping) directly influence her brushstroke.
