Graduated from the I E Repin Academy of Arts in 1947 Studied under I Ya Bilibin and V M Konashevich. His diploma series for Alexander Pushkins poem. The Bronze Horseman was published and became the basis for his admission to the Union of Artists. From the late 1950s he worked as a childrens book illustrator. He illustrated fairy tales by Pushkin Perrault and Russian folk tales. The total circulation of childrens books illustrated by him exceeded 1.2 million copies. From 1970 he worked together with his daughter the artist Ksenia Ershova Krivosheina. Their books were published in Finland the Netherlands and England. His first solo exhibition took place posthumously in Leningrad in1989. Later major exhibitions were held at the State Russian Museum and the Mikhaylovskoye Museum Reserve. In 2007 the Mikhaylovskoye Museum Reserve acquired his works and published an album of his art.
