After finishing seven years of school, he went to work at a factory. He began drawing at the age of twenty. He studied at the studio of the Tashkent Museum of Art (1923-1927) under N.V. Rozanov. In 1928-1929, he studied at the Penza Art School under I.S. Goryushkin-Sorokopudov. Since 1929, he began participating in art exhibitions. He was the first Uzbek easel painter.
