b. 1964, Almaty, Kazakhstan
Eduard Kazarian (1964, Almaty – lives and works in Almaty) Eduard Kazarian is a Kazakh sculptor whose expansive practice spans from small forms to public monumental works, employing materials such as bronze, steel, and clay, and techniques including mosaics, tapestry, graphics, and jewelry. A 1990 graduate of the Almaty State Theater and Art Institute, Kazarian is recognised for a distinctive authorial style marked by psychological subtlety and rigorous experimental energy. His works often teem with life, taking the form of intertwined human and animalistic forms. In 2015, he founded the Kazarian Art Center in Almaty, a platform for artistic exchange and creative exploration. Kazarian’s art explores themes of family, home, relationships and the deep connection between humanity and nature. His bronze sculpture House of Travelers, presented in Qonaqtar, reflects the artist’s vision of a house-studio where his sculptures, dreams, and memories – everything most personal and important – are conceived and take shape. Though rooted in the real memory of his first studio, it is not static; instead, it is nomadic, capable of moving and traveling the world, at least in the artist’s imagination.
